There are 5 incorporated towns in Northampton County.

Each town may have different taxes, zoning, and utility rates in addition to Northampton County taxes and zoning. Please check with the towns and county directly.

Here is a breakdown:

Cape Charles - Provides city water, sewer and trash collection. It's residents are accessed a fee for water and sewer, trash collection, motor vehicle decals, personal property tax, real estate tax, and business license tax based upon gross receipts. Zoning is applied by the Town of Cape Charles and county taxes are accessed from Northampton County.

Cheriton - Septic system, no trash collection, zoning and taxes accessed from Northampton County.

Eastville - Septic system, no trash collection, zoning and taxes accessed from Northampton County.

Exmore - Provides city water, sewer and trash collection. It's residents are accessed a fee for water and sewer, motor vehicle decals, personal property tax, real estate tax, and business license tax based upon gross receipts. Zoning is applied by the Town of Exmore and county taxes are accessed from Northampton County.

Nassawadox - Septic system, no trash collection, zoning and taxes accessed from Northampton County.

Taxes

The Virginia Department of Taxation administers state income taxes. Generally the taxes you pay the state are calculated based on your Federal income tax return.

The Northampton County Commissioner of Revenue administers assessment of real property and personal property taxes in Northampton County.
