Transportation

 

Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel

 

Known as one of the Seven Engineering Wonders of the Modern World, this 17.6 mile complex spans the mouth of Chesapeake Bay providing a shorter and less congested north-south route while letting the traveler marvel at an engineering wonder. A tourist center located on the south island of the crossing offers the traveler a restaurant, souvenirs, observation points and fishing pier.

 

 

 

 

Air

Accomack Airport is a small airport located in Melfa. Otherwise, the nearest airport is Norfolk International.

 

Bus

Star Transit's public bus serves the entire Eastern Shore, Monday through Friday beginning at about 6:00am. $1.50 per person. Children under 4 years of age ride free. “Demand response” routes are available from 6:30 am to 5:30 pm and costs $3.00. Generally, there is no bus service on holidays. Buses have chair lifts and some have bike racks. If you need a bus, call them at (757) 665-1994.

 

Driving

A driving license can be obtained through the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. The county requires that all vehicles be registered with the Commissioner of Revenue. Some incorporated towns require town stickers. The Commonwealth of Virginia requires annual inspections of your vehicles.
